And normally we get a few people who raise their hands to say yes, many give blank stares, and then some yell out “What the <BLEEP> is Yelp?”
Yelp (www.yelp.com) is a very important website that tons of people are now going to to find out about and read reviews of local businesses. It lists any type of business you’re looking for, from restaurants to gyms to jewelry stores to DENTISTS!
So is your dental office you on Yelp yet? The answer is a big YES. Whether you want to be there or not, you are there. Because Yelp has more than likely found your “business,” categorized it and listed it.
So here is your homework. Go to www.yelp.com right now. There are two search boxes. Under the first one that says “Search for,” enter “DENTIST.” In the second one that says “Near,” enter your city or town. Get as specific as you can.
Now click the “Search” box on the right and see if you show up. Better yet, see if you come up close to the top. That is important.
When you find yourself, look to see what people have written about you. If there are at least several reviews for you, congratulations, especially if they are good. This is how you get closer to the top! If there are absolutely no reviews about your practice, that is bad. Very bad. It means that you are a “nobody” in the Yelp world.
If you have not edited your information on your page and made sure everything is correct, while you are on your page, please click on “Claim This Business.” Once you do, you have control over your page.
OK, listen up people!!! It is almost 2012 and as much as you may want to, you cannot bury your head in the sand any more. Social media, local business searches and geo-tagging are going to be a tremendous way that people in your community will find out about you. Are you ready to make 2012 your best year yet? Good!
