This Dentist Is Going To Jail
It’s been all over the news lately. A Massachusetts dentist has been convicted of using paper clips in place of endodontic posts. It made every major network news show and was even featured by those smiling faces on Inside Edition.
But there’s actually more. It seems Dr. Michael Clair has also been found guilty of Medicaid fraud, illegal prescription writing and witness intimidation. What a guy!
The sad thing is – as soon as a dentist does some crazy stuff like this the press jumps all over it. But the hundreds of thousands of dentists and team members who do great things for people all day long get no publicity at all.
How can you counteract this?
Well, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing a little of your own publicity to let your patients know about the great things you do.
For example, Madow Powerhouse member Dr. Joanne Rief recently went on a dental mission trip to The Galapagos Islands where she and a fantastic team of health professionals saved not only teeth but lives. She is currently producing a slide show of the trip and will be playing it on a monitor in her reception room.
Surely you have done some great things for your community, whether it is participating in a neighborhood health fair, doing school visits for the local elementary school, sponsoring a soccer team, or anything else of that nature. No matter how small you may think it is, it is important to let your patients know that you are the “good guys” in dentistry.
As Walt Whitman once said – “If you done it, it ain’t braggin’!”
So go ahead! Do some great stuff and let your community know about it! Plaster your reception area with evidence of your good deeds. Blast it all over social media. Get some local news coverage. Just about everyone in dentistry is a “do-gooder,” whether the press wants to believe it or not!!
And whatever you do – don’t do anything as stupid as using paper clips instead of surgical posts, White-Out instead of actual whitening gel, or Super Glue for pulp caps!
Maybe Dr. Clair (now affectionately known as “The Big Cavity” by his cell mate) was just trying to save money on dental supplies!
