Update on "Doing the Right Thing"

A couple of weeks ago I published a post entitled "You Can Never Go Wrong By Doing The Right Thing." I gotta tell you, I received more feedback on that post than probably any other post I have ever published. I have thousands of readers and I thank many of you for your comments. They ranged from "very nice - hope we can all see the big picture and get along" all the way down to "this was insulting." One of my readers emailed me earlier today and said he loved the posting but said quite honestly I could have gotten the exact same message across without pointing my finger at anyone. After rereading the post many times, I actually agreed 100% with this reader. For that reason, the post has been reworked to give the very same message but without being unfair or harsh to anyone. So if you are so inclined, go back and read "You Can Never Go Wrong By Doing The Right Thing" one more time and you'll see what I mean.

You see, I honestly want to do the right thing. It is paramount! I admit I am not perfect, but when I spot something that I can improve upon, I will be the first to admit it and make the change.

I close in saying I hope this blog will ultimately succeed in helping people forget the past. Too many of us harbor bad feelings and for that reason forget what life is really about. So give it up!!! I've said what I have to say. The rest is up to you. And as always... thanks for reading my blog!!!

Got the Memphis Blues?

Next week Rich and I will be on the road doing our highly successful "Love Dentistry, Have Fun and Get Rich" seminar. Our first stop (opening day) will be in Memphis, Tennessee! I am so looking forward to being in Memphis... I'm going to try to get in a little early the day before in order to sample some of the good barbeque and perhaps catch a little music. Speaking of music, I don't know whether this has ever been documented, but I believe that Memphis could be the most written about city in the music that has come out over the past fifty years or so. I cannot prove this, but if you think there is another city that is mentioned more than Memphis, please send me an email or give me a call.

By the way, speaking of calls, it's always good to hear from old friends that have been away for a while. As we go through life, people drift in and people drift out, sometimes for no reason at all. Well, I knew that many people read my blog, but I guess I never realized how far it reached - across the country and around the world. Anyway it was very nice to receive a call from an old friend commenting about a blog entry just a short time ago.

Do you want to do something that will make you feel really good? Think of an old friend or a relative that you may not have spoken to for a while. Now, pick up the phone and surprise them and just say "hi!" I guarantee it will not only make their day, but it will make your day as well. As I said earlier, life is just too damn short. Call that person. Say hello. Hear what they have to say!!!!

So my friend, check back very soon. Because you absolutely won't believe what you will read right here. Now in the meantime, go make that call!!!!

You Can Never Go Wrong By Doing The Right Thing

Have you ever really been pissed at someone? Has someone screwed you over in some way? Do you want to do something to get back at them? Ever held a grudge? Well, read on and I will be able to help you with this. I'll help you get back!

I can think of a few people who entered my life sometime in the past that ranged anywhere from not being a nice person all the way to being a total asshole that could have ruined my entire life had I let them. Some of these people were so bad that I spent a lot of my waking hours figuring out what I could do to make THEM more miserable. Because if there were a way that I could get back at them somehow, I would of course be happier, right?

Then I got wise. Something recently happened that made me rethink everything. I realized that holding a grudge is not only plain stupid, it is very unhealthy. In the end, we all die, no one wins, and a lot of negative energy is spent when we could have been doing something positive.

Let me relate a story to you. The Drubbers were best friends of my parents back in the day when my brothers and I were all growing up. Our families were incredibly close for at least thirty years, probably more. We did a lot of stuff together.

About fifteen years ago, my parents and the Drubbers had a falling out. To this day I am not even sure of the reason. They probably don't even know themselves! But the reason of the falling out is no longer important. Like so many grudges, the reason is secondary to the fact that the parties needed to keep the grudge going. So for quite some time now, the Madows and the Drubbers have not talked and have snubbed each other when they have seen each other in restaurants, while shopping, at funerals, etc.

I find it so sad that people can harbor such hatred. But I do believe that good things can arise from bad things. I know that no matter how long a grudge has been going on, you can never err by doing the right thing. Let me say something here. I believe it's never too late to do the right thing. So if any of you somehow see this... come on guys, give it up. Don't die angry at anyone!

Believe it or not, I have had a few personal incidents that involved dealing with others that had been less than nice to me. And I have found that no matter how badly I wanted to give someone a hard time or to call them a jerk for doing something bad, I would never go wrong with a smile and nice words. NEVER. Being nice and letting go will never get you into trouble!

Well, alright you wise cynic, maybe there are a few exceptions to this rule. If someone is threatening you with physical harm, and you feel that being a nice guy could make it worse, then NO, do not be nice. Do what you gotta do to get out of the situation. But in almost every case, you will not go wrong by doing the right thing. And it just may add some years to your life.

If any readers are holding grudges or come across any people that rub you the wrong way... just let it go. Life is a series of events that we go through and then we die. Don't try to get back at anyone. Don't harbor bad feelings. Hundreds of years from now do you think anyone will give a damn that you put some asshole in his or her place? Just let it go. I'm telling you... let it go. Do the right thing!

See you very soon... David Madow
