Attend A Seminar In Your Underwear!

Friday and Saturday, April 30th and May 1st, The Madow Brothers will join Dr. Gordon Christensen and several other top dental speakers at the DDS Tech Fair – and you can attend in your underpants!

The DDS Tech Fair is a brand new concept – an easy to use online trade show with lectures, exhibits, CE credits, networking and more – and the whole thing is free!

It is put together by Pennwell Publications – the Dental Economics people-  so you know it will be a first class event. Our talk is entitled “Four Easy Steps To Your Best Year Ever” and we really hope you can join us. You’ll learn some fantastic things to help your practice grow like crazy!

Actually, since it’s free, you can do it right from your computer, it will feature the best speakers in dentistry, and you don’t even have to wear a name tag or brush your hair, you have absolutely no excuse not to be there!

Simply visit www.ddstechfair.com to register and they will send you an email with a special link to log into the show. Once there you can attend the lectures (hopefully ours!), visit the exhibit hall, network with other attendees and have lots of fun while you learn. Don’t miss it!!

That’s Not The Spirit!!!

No airline has gotten more publicity lately than Spirit Airlines – for all the wrong reasons.

Recently Spirit Airlines has made the decision to charge up to forty-five dollars to passengers who bring carry-on bags onto the flight, and the press has been slamming them.

Yet Fast Company co-founder Bill Taylor thinks the criticism has been misdirected. Taylor writes in a blog for Harvard Business Review that the big problem is “a company’s actions should line up with the message it’s been sending its customers all along.”

Southwest, one of the few profitable airlines, prides itself on not charging for checked bags of any kind and has even created an advertising campaign based on that. On the other side of the spectrum there is Ryanair, a European airline which has had tremendous success being so cut-rate they charge for practically everything except having a seat. Both airlines create expectations and live up to them.

So if your dental office is a clinic type practice where no appointment is necessary, emergencies are welcome and cold steel and sunshine is the most popular procedure, making patients wait in a crowded reception area may be consistent with their expectations.

On the other hand, if you claim to offer “five star service” and set your fees accordingly, you better live up to that Ritz-Carlton standard, even if that means sucking it up from time to time to keep your patients happy.

So get in the “Spirit” – the lesson is simple. Set your expectations as you like and act accordingly – or better!

By the way – doctors and team members – if your expectations are to schedule more new patients than ever before without doing any more marketing, you gotta check out our Profitable Scheduling system. It’s inexpensive, takes just two hours to complete, and if you don’t start getting more new patients right away we’ll refund your purchase price! Check it out by clicking here!

It’s Snowing In Phoenix!!

Those of you who grew up in the Northeast know that there is nothing quite as exciting for a kid than waking up in the morning to a full blanket of snow with the local school district declaring a “Snow Day.” But what if you live in Phoenix? And what if your school days are a few years behind you?

We happen to be in Phoenix, Arizona today teaching Social Media Marketing to a fantastic group of dental offices and of course chatting it up with the attendees as well. Well – a few days ago one of our attendees, Dr. Eric Heap of Tempe, AZ, surprised his team with a very rare “Snow Day” in the desert! Here’s what happened.

In cahoots with Dr. Eric were his extraordinary front desk team – his wife Patricia and their long term team member Debbie – two women who are as intelligent and charming as they are beautiful! First they filled the schedule with patients (concentrating on those special “problem patients” we all know and love). During the morning huddle they could practically see everyone’s blood pressure rising.

Then Dr. Eric came back in wearing a straw hat and sandals and declared it a “Snow Day In Arizona!” The entire team retreated to his house for a day of games, fun, camaraderie, great food and drink (mimosas in the morning anyone??) and basically a day where the entire team could get together and laugh without the pressures of being in the dental office.

Sure – the “Snow Day” was a day of lost revenue. But the appreciation the team will have for their great boss and the bonding experience are priceless – and will more than pay for themselves in attitudes, team longevity and more!

The HIGHEST Seminar Ever??

April 1, 2010

The Madow Brothers have always produced the most innovative dental seminars, and we’re about to take that to an entirely new level!

From our one day presentation “How To Love Dentistry, Have Fun and Get Rich” to our incredible two day hands-on “Dental Social Media Marketing Summit” to the legendary Las Vegas “TBSE” – a Madow Brothers Seminar is always guaranteed to be something special.

But this summer we will be doing something that is sure to be the most talked about meeting in dental history!

Here’s the story. While we absolutely love doing multi-day meetings with the best speakers from all over the world, when you start to total up the costs of flights, hotels, and all of the other expenses involved with bringing in all of these dental luminaries, things can really add up. Add to that the expense of bringing our great team along, renting all of the production equipment, a large crew and many other factors, and it can get out of control.

We were discussing this at a team meeting a few months ago while reviewing our speaking calendar. While trying to juggle some travel dates around, our newest team member, Sofia Proll, came up with a really outrageous idea.

Since The Madow Brothers, our seminar staff and our production crew
are usually all together on flights anyway….
why not do a seminar on the plane??

At first we just laughed, but Sofia was dead serious – and we listened! Then the ideas started flowing!!!

What if instead of flying non-stop, we made a few stops and picked up some great speakers along the way? For example, leaving from Baltimore, we could stop in Chicago and pick up Dr. Lou Graham, one of our favorite speakers on the latest trends in dental technology and techniques! Then we’ll scoot down to Phoenix to pick up Dr. Howard Farran! And then maybe touch down in Salt Lake City and get Dr. Gordon Christensen to hop aboard for a great lecture. Are you listening now?  Maybe a brief detour to Seattle so Dr. John Kois could join in on the fun? And then when we finally touch down in Los Angeles, the great Dr. Bill Dorfman could be waiting there to give the closing keynote address!!

Was this totally crazy or one of the best ideas in dental history? We still weren’t sure – so we ran it by all of the proposed speakers, and guess what they all said?

“I’m IN!!”

The next step was for our General Manager, Richard Train, to call Southwest Airlines to see if they would just laugh at the idea. Well, believe it or not, Southwest LOVED IT! And since we guaranteed that we will fill all 137 seats, they are letting us use a plane just for this seminar.

It will be the world’s first dental seminar and party at 30,000 feet!
