Dentists or Nurses – Who Earns More?

By January 15, 2020January 29th, 2020Madow Blog
nurses or doctors, who should earn more?

Once again, US News and World Report published their annual list of “100 Best Jobs,” and once again dentists fared very well, coming in at number two. Many factors are considered, including earnings, lifestyle, education required, etc….. But just sticking to salary, they have dentists with a median income of $151,850. Interestingly, this is less than oral surgeons and orthodontists earn, but for some reason “plain old dentist” is ranked as a better occupation in general. Maybe being a GP is more fun than specializing…. Nurse practitioner is ranked overall # 5 with a median salary of $107,030.

But now let’s turn to our hometown rag, The Baltimore Business Journal. Their rankings were based on salary only (obviously here in Charm City it’s all about the Benjamins). According to the BBJ, dentists come in at spot # 24, earning a median income of $131,160 while nurse anesthetists (granted, a very specialized field of nursing) come in at # 2 with a median income of $217,880!! The lesson? Next time you are knee deep in spit and blood with a patient who is moving and screaming, you can yell “I should have been a nurse!”
