As you may know, it is our belief that Social Media or Web 2.0 is likely to be the most significant communication and marketing tool that we will see in our entire dental careers. In our thirty years of experience as dentists, we have never seen an opportunity such as this. We cannot even begin to tell you the impact Social Media has had on our very own business this year.
In our opinion, Web 2.0 is not an “option” for dentists. Whatever your opinion is, it is here and becoming more significant every single day. Just like having email and a website, it is becoming mandatory to have a serious presence. And just like anything else, the “early birds” will be the winners due to its viral growth potential.
Please understand that Social Media is very different than TV ads, radio ads, Yellow Pages ads, and the like. The biggest difference is that people in the community actually CHOOSE to follow YOU and will get to know you, as opposed to being bombarded with unwanted ads from you. It is entirely different. You develop a following, a group of “fans.” These are people that WANT to hear more about you. That is the beauty.
In our opinion, not taking advantage of Social Media Marketing could be a big mistake for your practice. The reason? Think about it. Due to its potential power, if another dentist in your direct market becomes highly visible through Social Media and cultivates a large group of followers, it is fairly easy to understand what type of an impact this could have. Doing nothing is an option, but not a good option.
OK, so many of you have been asking us how to get started. You are worried that you do not have the time or the expertise for Web 2.0.
The good news is that although you need to have a basic understanding of what is going on, you do not necessarily need to be an “expert.” But we feel you should at least know what the pieces are, how they fit together, and how to utilize them.
Having a fan page on Facebook will introduce you the world of Social Media without overwhelming you. It is fairly easy and it costs nothing. But like anything else, there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. We suggest you take a look at our fan page just to get an idea what one is like. Go to http:///www.facebook.com/madowgroup and have a look around. Once there, click “become a fan.” Please note that our page is very active. We post every day. Although posting every single day is not mandatory, a page where there is no “action” will do nothing for you.
Hopefully, you will begin to see the importance and the potential power of Social Media. We are here to help you. For more information on really getting a jump-start on this, please click HERE!
