Ok here’s a great tip for you. Many of you have asked what is the best way to get started with Social Media for your dental practice. Well, while there are several different things that you need to do, let’s go ahead and get started with just one. It’s actually fairly simple. What you should do is post a video on YouTube that you take with your new Flip Video Camera! If you don’t have a Flip, it is pretty much a necessity these days for many reasons. They are cheap (about $129) and absolutely simple to operate and to upload once you take the video. Please refer to our earlier blog entry entitled “The Power And Simplicity Of Patient Testimonial Videos.”
So let’s say you have your Flip and you want to get started. Ask a good patient of yours if they would mind giving a nice testimonial about you and your office on video. Almost everyone will say yes. People love to ham it up on video!
Keep your patient testimonial video short and sweet. No more than sixty seconds. And don’t YOU speak into the video, just let the patient speak freely. The great thing about video is that you only post the ones that you think are winners.
Now here comes the fun part. Make sure you have a YouTube account and upload the video to your account. But that’s not all. You see, search engines such as Google have no idea what is actually on the video. So YouTube will ask you for a description. This is VERY important. Make sure in your description, you include important words that people in your area may be searching. For example, a description could be “In this video Mr. John Stevens, a long time patient at Reisterstown Cosmetic Dentistry describes what it’s like to be a patient there. Dr. Pete Hoff of Reisterstown Cosmetic Dentistry offers all types of dentistry, including implants, crowns, dentures, whitening, orthodontics (teeth straightening) and more. They can be reached at…….”
I think you get the idea here!
YouTube will also ask you to supply keywords with each video you post. So again, make sure you use all of the words that you think people will possibly put into a search when looking for a dentist in your area!
One last thing and it’s very important as well. When you set up your YouTube account, you will be asked to type in a description. Again, please make sure you use all of the important words in this description.
Now you are set to take your first video. Go ahead, give it a try. You cannot make a mistake! The more you upload, the more searchable your office will be. You are off to a great start!
