Marketing and Management Ideas for August

Today we are going to hear from Lead Coach Betty Hayden! Betty specializes in working with both doctor and team to grow production, lower overhead, increase collections, foster accountability, and generate referrals. She also knows dentistry should be fun – and today she will offer up some ways to put smiles on everyone’s faces while growing the practice! Take it away Betty!!

The Back to School season, while dreaded by many children (and some parents and teachers too), it is a great time for your dental office to exceed patient’s expectations and educate the community on the importance of good dental health for their children as well as for teachers.

Here are some Dental Marketing and Practice Management Ideas for the month of August…

Theme:  Back to School With Healthy Smiles!

Target Audience: Teachers and School Aged Children

Focus: Preventive Dental Services.

What: Education, Promotion, and Special Offers

  • Send a press release to local papers and news stations with “Children’s Dental Health Tips for Parents,” such as healthy snack and beverage ideas, when to visit the dentist, what-to-do in a dental emergency, brushing and flossing tips, mouthguard information, sealants information, and more.
  • Facebook (live) videos sharing the aforementioned tip and ideas.
  • August is Get Ready for Kindergarten Month – Send out a press release and promote social media posts that focus on kindergarten-aged children.

Book Fairs – Many schools will be hosting book fairs this school year.  And if your local school(s) are anything like mine, these book fairs draw a very large crowd.

Create fun, interesting bookmarks for your local schools that include your office contact information. Deliver these bookmarks as a gift to the local schools to use during their book fairs. Easy! Right?

Donations/Community – Use your office as a community donation site for school supplies or new & gently used books to be donated to local children and/or schools in need. Advertise in office, on your social media sites, to local businesses and the news media via press release that your office is collecting donations for school supplies or books.

This is a GREAT way to bring in potential new patients… when folks come into the office to drop off their donations, be sure to warmly welcome them, give a brief tour of the office, hand out small thank you gifts that are imprinted with your office information or have a raffle they can enter to win a prize.

Pick Of The Week!

Are you doing anything to recognize or reward your patients on a regular basis? This (and maybe not your beautiful restorations) is what gets people to talk about you and spread good things about your practice to others.

Do you have a “No Cavity Club” for kids which is posted on your Facebook page or written about in your practice newsletter? Do you have a monthly drawing for a free whitening or a “Chic-Flic” pen?? Do you give cool presents to those who refer others?

These kinds of things really go a long way in getting others interested in your practice. Your patients won’t talk about your excellent crown margins. But stick their kid’s picture somewhere or give them a little “lagniappe” and watch what happens!

If you’ve been to TBSE (there is still time for 11-11-11!!) or one of our “Love Dentistry, Have Fun and Prosper!” seminars, you know that we always incorporate some live music into the learning experience.

Recently we had some Madow Brothers guitar picks made by Steve Clayton Custom Picks, a company which makes custom guitar picks for major rock stars, local acts, and everyone in between. Well – they liked our picks so much that they named them “Pick Of The Week” and featured them on their website. Very cool!!

Are we telling everyone? We sure are! And out of the thousands of people that read this message, will some of them order custom picks from Steve Clayton? No doubt about it!

The lesson? Recognize your patients. Give stuff away. Make people feel special. It makes them feel good – and helps your practice too!

This Is Guaranteed To Make You Feel Good About Dentistry!

One of the great things about dentistry is being able to enhance patient’s lives so significantly. Allowing people to look better, smile more readily, be free of pain, chew and function normally, live longer and have nice fresh breath for speaking and kissing are just a few of the things we do to improve the lives of everyone we touch. Even the most basic dental procedures are incredibly important – without good dental hygiene and regular cleanings millions more teeth would be lost every year.

Unfortunately even in the United States there are many citizens who have little or no access to oral health care. Many of these people, especially children, will have their futures dampened due to dental disease and lack of care. At The Madow Group, we are huge believers in helping the less fortunate achieve excellent dental health. We urge you to make 2010 the year that you help a few members of your community by providing free or low cost dental treatment. It will make you, the entire team and your patients feel even better about what you do.

Want to get involved on a larger scale? There are ways that you can touch thousands of deserving people from traditionally underserved parts of the country. For over fifty years, Oral Health America has been improving public health by eliminating oral disease through educating and empowering communities to provide access to care, and advocating for policies that create oral health parity.

Here are just a few examples of their great work:

ACCESS: OHA is close to their goal of providing 1,000,000 dental sealants to 225,000 children by 2010.

EDUCATION: Their messages of dental hygiene, proper professional care and healthy food choices have appeared in news sources which have reached over 170 million people.

ADVOCACY: For every American that lacks medical insurance, approximately two lack dental insurance. Only about one third of children covered by Medicaid obtain dental services each year. Oral Health America is advocating for the mouth to be included as one of our nation’s healthcare priorities, and is working in partnership with other oral health leaders to educate policymakers about disparities in access, social and economic equity, workforce, and effective community-based interventions.

We support this fantastic organization and hope that you will too. Please visit their website at www.oralhealthamerica.org to learn about the multitude of things they are doing to educate and improve the oral health care of so many in this country. While you are there learning about the fantastic work of this organization, we urge you to donate whatever you can afford. It’s guaranteed to make you feel even better about the great things we do in dentistry!
