What’s your secret sauce?
Maybe like us you are old enough to remember when McDonald’s introduced the Big Mac in 1968. At that time it seemed like a revelation (but we were kids….)
The Big Mac really took off in 1974 when the classic advertising jingle was first aired and we all knew the creation by its parts:
“Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions – on a sesame seed bun!”
Sure it was a great jingle, but it was the “special sauce” that took the burger into the stratosphere. After all, we all thought it was Russian Dressing (soon to be renamed “1000 Island.”) But now it became “special sauce” and everything changed!!
And so it goes with the most successful dental practices. They all have a special or secret sauce. And like it or not, it is usually not clinical excellence – it’s something to do with outstanding customer service. Interview the patients of an exceptionally successful practice and many times they can’t even identify the secret sauce.
They will say things like:
“They make me comfortable.”
“They care about me.”
“I don’t feel like a number.”
“Everyone there is so nice.”
“I trust them.”
So here’s a good assignment for your next team meeting. Get everyone in the practice to answer this question:
“What’s our practice’s secret sauce?”
Identify what it is or what you want it to be. Then make sure you learn it and live it.
